After the idea of forming a society for prevention and awareness of diabetes was conceptualized by Dr. Rishi Shukla in the year 1995, the first step that team SPAD took was to design an education programme for type-2 patients. It was decided that team will conduct this programme on the fourth Sunday of every month. The programme began in July 1995 with just 50 Type-2 patients , since then this programme fondly named as “ Spad Regular Monthly Meeting” has been going on with-out any interruption and it has become USP of spad.
SPAD organises a special programme for Type-1 friends on quarterly basis. This programme is focused on providing guidance to these patients on how they have to live a fulfilling life along with diabetes. The guidance includes medical counselling, physical check-ups, emotional support and complimentary donation of insulin. The event also focuses on making Type-1 buddies independent. A high level medical counselling is done for patients and their attendants empowering them to accept and assimilate the fact of life and gracefully live with it.
SPAD organises training programmes for Doctors so to update them on how best they can manage their Type-1 patients. Senior and most experienced Endocrinologist from India and abroad are invited to give lectures, impart training and to take live sessions on advancements happening in the field of diabetes and patient management.
Paramedical professionals play in key role in the clinics and hospitals when it comes to patient management. SPAD realises their importance for Doctors and Attendants of patient. So the core team of SPAD decided to enrich the knowledge and experience of these paramedical people. Thus extensive training programmes are organised for them from time-to-time. In these programmes paramedical work force is exposed to situations which may arise in their professional lives. Along with this they are also given hands-on-training on advance development and new technologies coming in medical field related to diabetes.
Diabetes patients specially Type-1 children needs special care , taking this thought into consideration SPAD organises “ Public Awareness Programmes” to make people know the reality of diabetic world. A large crowd in India is still living in the myths related to diabetes, now if someone is living in a diabetic- myth it may not affect them directly but it may affect the patients. Public Awareness Programmes are designed in such a way that they give conceptual clarity on how society should behave with diabetic patient especially Type-1.
Celebration should have a cause and what could be better than World Diabetes Day when it comes to have a fun-filled education programme for Type-1 children. Every year on 14th November SPAD organises a special theme based programmes for Type-1 friends. Most of theses programmes are designed, developed and participated by Type-1 children with support of SPAD team. A day where they live freely and get inspiration to become independent and self-reliant in their lives.
-Core team of SPAD doctors are constantly engaged in research work related to diabetes. Their research papers are published in national and international journals. Their posters also come in light in different platforms of medical event and programmes.
